Anita Harden Named to Citizens Gas Board of Directors
INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Gas & Coke Utility announced today that Anita J. Harden, President, Community Hospital East, has been named to the Citizens Gas Board of Directors.
Harden, who has been with Community Health Network for 30 years, became president of Community Hospital East in April 2004. During her tenure as president, Harden has overseen a complete renovation of the facility, the opening of a $3.5 million Center for Radiology on the lower level and the $7.5 million Center for Radiation Oncology
“We are honored that Anita Harden has agreed to serve on the Citizens Gas Board of Directors. Anita's vast leadership experience with nonprofit organizations will be a great asset to our management of the public charitable trust under which Citizens Gas operates,” said Citizens Board Chairman and President James A. Wade, Chairman and CEO, R.W. Armstrong & Associates.
Over the years, Harden has attained many honors including the “Sagamore of the Wabash” for her work as a loaned executive to Governor Evan Bayh's office, where she along with other executives were commissioned to reduce the budget of the Health and Human Services departments. Over the years, she has received numerous awards and most recently she was inducted into the Indianapolis Public Schools Alumni Hall of Fame in 2007.
Harden is active in the Indianapolis community as a volunteer and board member for many nonprofit and community organizations. She serves on the Board of the Indianapolis Private Industry Council (IPIC). She is a past president of the Marion County Mental Health Association. She is also on the boards of the Hispanic Center, Indianapolis Zoological Society, La Plaza and Jackson-Peoples Living Center, where she is president. She generously volunteers her time with medical mission work, where she has served in Haiti, Cuba and Vietnam. Harden is an active member of the Light of the World Christian Church.
A registered nursing graduate of Indiana University, Harden also received a master's in nursing and an MBA from IU. Prior to joining Community Health Network, Harden taught at the IU School of Nursing.
