Citizens Gas & State of Indiana Offer Efficiency Grants to Redevelopment Agencies
INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Gas has joined with the Indiana Office of Energy & Defense Development (OED) to offer energy efficiency and conservation grants to nonprofit agencies and other community redevelopment partners working with the utility in Marion County.
With $100,000 in funding from OED, Citizens Gas is allocating $84,000 to offer 56 energy efficiency and conservation grants, and $16,000 to provide programmable thermostats to about 700 families. Each qualifying agency must meet certain requirements, including:
- Install one EnergyStar rated furnace and water heater in a newly constructed or rehabilitated low-to-moderate priced house
- Install one programmable thermostat per house (provided to those who qualify)
- Provide proof of appliance installation
- Allow the state to conduct site visits with five days notice
“This project brings community partners together to help Hoosiers make energy conservation and efficiency a way of life,” said Lt. Governor Becky Skillman. “Improved efficiency plays a significant role in tackling Indiana 's energy and environmental challenges.”
“We are pleased the State of Indiana has joined with us to help more customers conserve clean-burning, efficient natural gas. These grants have been designed to offset the initial cost to qualifying entities for the purchase of EnergyStar brand gas furnaces and water heaters. Once these high efficiency appliances are installed, they will provide many years of energy savings that will help low-to-moderate income households reduce their energy bills,” said Carey Lykins, President & CEO of Citizens Gas & Coke Utility.
Entities interested in the grants should contact Jan Diggins, Community Development Manager, Citizens Gas, 2020 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN., (317) 927-6439.
