Citizens Gas Announces Adjustment in October Bills
INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Gas announced today that it will adjust customer bills in October to address a billing process error made this past April and May. The utility will issue credits averaging $6.07 to about 123,000 customers and charges averaging $5.43 to about 139,000 customers.
All current customers over billed will receive their full credit. Credits to over billed customers total about $749,000. Citizens Gas under billed for approximately $860,000, but the utility has decided to absorb $103,000 of these costs. The utility also will cap the maximum charge for under billed residential customers at $15. Most under billed customers will be charged less than $15.
“Citizens Gas takes great pride in our billing process and apologizes for this billing error. You can be assured we have taken steps to prevent this from happening again. We are erring on the side of the customer by capping charges to under billed customers and by ensuring over billed customers receive their full credit,” said Greg Sawyers, Director of Customer Services at Citizens Gas.
As Citizens Gas prepared its billing system for the upcoming heating season a fault in the process was discovered that resulted in both under billing and over billing of customers last April and May. The billing error occurred when Citizens Gas implemented a new bill calculation system, which is designed to stabilize customer bills by adjusting charges for normal temperatures. The billing error did not occur in bills issued between June and September.
Customers with questions about the billing adjustment should call 924-3311 or e-mail CustomerCare@cgcu.com.
