Citizens Gas Helps Sponsor Energy Efficiency Training for Teachers

INDIANAPOLIS – Area teachers are gathering today at Fort Harrison State Park to receive hands-on energy conservation training and energy efficiency kits, thanks to a partnership between Citizens Gas & Coke Utility, other area utilities and the National Energy Education Development Project (NEED).

The NEED program educates teachers and students about energy efficiency and conservation, and provides tools to help educators, energy managers and consumers use energy wisely. Citizens Gas, Cinergy/PSI, Vectren, and Indianapolis Power & Light, are working together to host five workshops throughout central Indiana.

“It is vital that young people understand that conserving all forms of energy has a positive impact both on our economy and the environment. Providing teachers this important energy efficiency training is the first step to ensuring that future generations are good stewards of our energy and environmental resources,” commented Carey Lykins, President and CEO of Citizens Gas.

Each participating teacher will receive a class-set of energy-saving kits and student workbooks. Participating teachers are also asked to track student involvement and report back on student participation and success.

About NEED
The NEED Project is a nonprofit education association that has been dedicated since 1980 to promoting a realistic understanding of the scientific, economic and environmental impacts of energy, so that students and teachers can make educated decisions.
