Citizens Gas Executive Named Chair of National Fuel Funds Network

INDIANAPOLIS – Greg Sawyers, Director of Customer Service at Citizens Gas & Coke Utility, has been elected Board of Directors Chairperson for the National Fuel Funds Network (NFFN), a broad-based organization dedicated to increasing resources available to meet the energy needs of low-income people across the country.

“The National Fuel Funds Network recognized a dynamic national leader in electing Greg Sawyers as chairperson. NFFN is a partnership of nonprofit energy assistance organizations and utilities. Greg brings experience from both sides of the partnership, as a creative customer service manager for a utility and as a long-time board member of a local charitable energy assistance program,” said George Coling, Executive Director of NFFN.

“Being named chairperson of the National Fuel Funds Network is a great honor. National Fuel Funds Network is a leader in helping maximize energy assistance resources for low-income Americans," said Sawyers, who is the first utility executive ever elected chairperson of the organization. “As the nation's only utility operated as a Public Charitable Trust only for the benefit of its customers, Citizens Gas has long been dedicated to doing all it can to help customers in need.”

Sawyers' NFFN appointment follows his ongoing leadership with energy assistance organizations at the state, local and regional levels. He currently serves as co-chair of Indiana 's Coalition to Keep Indiana Warm and is a past chair of the American Gas Association's Customer Activities Committee and the Midwest Energy Association's Customer Relations Committee. Sawyers also serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Citizens Warm Heart Warm Home Foundation™, a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to providing energy and home weatherization assistance to Citizens Gas customers.

NFFN's activities include its national conference and Energy Safety Net Project, which provide information and training to energy assistance organizations across the country. Each year on February 1st NFFN holds its Washington Action Day for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program). LIHEAP Action Day creates national legislative and media attention to the need for energy assistance for low-income Americans.
