Citizens Gas Reminds Community to Call Before You Dig
INDIANAPOLIS – If you plan to dig a hole, install a fence, tear down a building, or engage in other earth-moving activity, you must call the State’s One-Call Service at 811, at least two days in advance to have underground utility lines marked at no cost. While state law requires notification calls two days before such work, additional time may be needed to have utilities marked.
In the event of a ruptured gas line at their home or business, residents are reminded of the following:
- Leave the area of the gas leak immediately, being careful not to light matches, touch electrical switches or use the telephone. Also do not start vehicles of any kind that are located near the gas leak.
- Once away from the area of the leak, call Citizens Gas at (317) 924-3311.
- Remain in the safe area until emergency personnel arrive.
